Composer Luis Meseguer has been awarded the Principal’s Medal, the highest academic distinction of the University of St Andrews. The award was presented by Principal Sally Mapstone on 3 December 2025.
Meseguer received the medal in recognition of his outstanding academic and artistic achievements, as well as his leadership and significant contribution to the university community.
Among the composer’s most notable projects during the 2024–2025 academic year is a sound installation for the monument to the world’s largest Sacred Heart, currently under construction in Madrid and expected to attract millions of visitors. Created entirely using musique concrète, the work was described by the Principal as “an innovative and highly relevant contribution to contemporary sacred music”.
The award was presented during the graduation ceremony, at which Luis Meseguer completed his Master’s degree in Sacred Music.
