Graduate Ana Guerrero selected for a space programme in the International Space University in South Korea

The former student of the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture has been admitted to the prestigious Space Studies Program (SSP) of the International Space University (ISU), which will take place this summer in Seoul (South Korea). Guerrero has received a grant from the European Space Agency to partially finance her participation in the programme.

Ana Guerrero, who graduated from the Bachelor's Degree in Architecture in 2021, will be one of the participants of the Space Studies Program 2025, an international and multidisciplinary programme that brings together experts and professionals in the aerospace field every year. This year's edition will take place between 30 June and 22 August in the South Korean capital.

The architect, who was also the first student from the School of Architecture to participate in the double degree programme with the University of Belgrano (Buenos Aires), has been  deeply involved in international academic initiatives since her university days. “International mobility set the tone of my time at UIC Barcelona. First, I did an Erasmus+ stay in Turin and then I had the opportunity to do an exchange in Buenos Aires. It was there I began my specialisation by developing the final part of my Final Degree Project with an open theme; in my case, spatial architecture’.

In order to finance her participation, Guerrero was selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to receive a grant covering 50% of the programme costs.  ‘The ESA grant makes it possible for me to undertake this extensive space training with professionals from the sector, alongside other students as passionate as me from different fields of knowledge,’ she says.

International mobility, the strategic core of education in architecture

Ana Guerrero's career reflects the School of Architecture's commitment to international and cross-disciplinary training. Through double degree agreements and mobility programmes such as Erasmus+ or collaborations with universities in Latin America, Europe and Asia, the faculty promotes a global preparation that is open to contemporary challenges.

ISU's Space Studies Program is aimed at professionals and students in areas such as engineering, architecture, social sciences, medicine and management, and combines classes, workshops and fieldwork on space exploration, sustainable development and international cooperation.

Ana Guerrero spoke to UIC Barcelona in 2022 about space architecture and her work on an astronomical observatory based in the Pyrenees.
