More than 150 alums from the Master’s Degree in Arts and Cultural Management celebrate the programme’s 25th anniversary

On 28 May, Alumni UIC Barcelona and the Faculty of Humanities brought together more than 150 graduates from the Master’s Degree in Arts and Cultural Management to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a programme that, during this time, has educated over 1,000 professionals from 80 countries.

The event drew alums from different graduating classes who have been part of the programme to UIC Barcelona’s Barcelona Campus, providing alums and teaching staff the opportunity to reconnect and exchange experiences.

The programme included a roundtable discussion chaired by members of the teaching staff that focused on the evolution and current challenges of cultural management education. Participants included Jordi Bermejo, vice-dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Christoph Pasour, the programme’s academic director; and former academic directors Miquel Bastons and Marta Crispí. Also on hand to offer their insight into the cultural sector were design consultant David Roselló; Cristina Calvet, a lawyer specialising in the audiovisual and arts sectors; and Diane Dodd, president of the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism.

The event also included an Alumni roundtable, during which graduates discussed their career paths and reflected on the development of a global community in the field of cultural management.

Moderated by Gabriella Johansson (Class of 2024), development manager at the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, the panel featured Alexandria Tylar (Class of 2025), exhibition coordinator at Espronceda; Vladislav Sludskiy (Class of 2024), co-founder of the Eurasian Cultural Alliance; Juan Sebastián Torregrosa (Class of 2020), general coordinator of the LATIR Festival; Judith Bordas (Class of 2017), head of Projects and Corporate Relations at the Catalunya Cultura Foundation; and Javier Rodes (Class of 2015), director of the Mequinenza Film Festival.

During the event, an honorary award was presented to the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) in recognition of its support for and contribution to the programme over the past 25 years. The award was collected by Ainhoa Grandes, president of the MACBA Foundation and member of the University Advisory Board (CAU). Lecturer Miquel Bastons was also honoured for his longstanding commitment and contribution as a member of the teaching staff.

The celebration also featured Alfonso Méndiz, rector of UIC Barcelona, included remarks by Christoph Pasour, the programme’s academic director, and was hosted by Frederic Van Dyck, director of Alumni UIC Barcelona.

The event concluded with a networking cocktail reception and a musical performance by SpringWater, a band comprised of UIC Barcelona alums.
