Six Business Administration and Management graduates share their professional experience with students
The session, held as part of the “Profesionalízate” series, gave students the opportunity to learn first-hand about different career paths and receive advice on navigating the early stages of their professional careers
Carla Ferrero (Puig), Alex Meler (BitBase), Pol Sánchez (Ros Petit), Anna Comas (Accenture), Maria Casas (Equivalenza) and Gerard Peix (Banco Mediolanum) shared their professional journeys and experiences with final-year BBA (Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management) students, from their time at university to their current roles.
Carla Ferrero, BBA Class of 2024 and e-commerce merchandiser at Puig, spoke about choosing the right work placement and encouraged students to carefully consider the settings in which they gain their first professional experiences, as they can shape the next steps in their careers. She also encouraged students to enter the world of work as soon as possible.
Alex Meler, BBA Class of 2025 and Executive Board director, CFO and partner at BitBase, urged students to step outside their comfort zones and make the most of their early professional years by exploring different paths. “To be happy, you have to try everything you can,” he said, highlighting the learning that comes from trying new things, making mistakes, meeting people and experiencing different environments.
From the field of taxation, Pol Sánchez, BBA Class of 2022 and tax advisor at Ros Petit, offered insight into the day-to-day aspects of his profession and his work with individuals and corporate groups. His talk also touched upon finding a professional environment that aligns with one's values and with person one wants to become.
Anna Comas, BBA Class of 2017 and data science manager at Accenture, presented a range of career opportunities in consulting and highlighted the value of work placements as learning opportunities. She also discussed working with data, from analysis to its representation and visualisation, as well as process and resource optimisation. Among the skills that can open doors in consulting, she highlighted analytical thinking and proactivity.
For her part, Maria Casas, BBA Class of 2025 and business analyst at Equivalenza, addressed the role of data in decision-making. She explained the need to look beyond the numbers to identify and interpret trends and translate them into clear, accessible messages. In this context, she highlighted the ability to synthesise information as a particularly valuable skill.
Finally, Gerard Peix, BBA Class of 2020 and family banker at Banco Mediolanum, presented a range of career opportunities in banking. Drawing on his experience at a Big Four firm, he discussed some of the benefits and challenges of working in these professional environments. He also identified proactivity and the ability to shoulder responsibility as key elements in professional development.
The session highlighted the value of graduate experience in guiding students as they take their first steps in the professional world.
