Technological advances are opening up new opportunities for greater efficiency and impact within the industry.
Eric Donaire (Biomedical Sciences, 2023; Master’s Degree in Biomedical Business Management, 2024) is known for his curiosity and analytical mindset, combining science and strategy in his day-to-day work. Driven by a desire to have a real impact on patients and organisations, in this interview he shares his perspective on the biomedical industry, the daily challenges he faces and the projects that motivate his continued professional growth.
I define myself as a curious, analytical person, with a strong ability to work as part of a team. I am continually motivated by the opportunity to integrate scientific knowledge with strategic decision-making, helping to advance projects that have a real impact on both patients and organisations.
My time at UIC Barcelona was essential in building a solid scientific foundation while also developing skills that I now consider key: critical thinking, analytical ability and teamwork.
I would particularly highlight the ability to approach complex problems from a multidisciplinary perspective and the emphasis on methodological rigour, which I apply constantly in my professional environment.
During my training, I had the opportunity to see firsthand how hospitals, research and startups operate. This helped me see that, beyond the scientific component, I was particularly drawn to the organisational and strategic aspects of projects. I realised that management is essential for biomedical innovation to ultimately reach the market. This combination of science, planning and decision-making led me to apply my background to management within the pharmaceutical industry.
One of the main challenges is coordinating global, multidisciplinary teams, ensuring that all functions are aligned with the project objectives and timelines. It is also crucial to manage priorities, anticipate risks and adapt to constant changes, while maintaining a balance between quality, time and resources within regulatory compliance.
I think process digitalisation, data usage and artificial intelligence applied to research and drug development will be particularly relevant, as well as developments in personalised medicine. These trends are reshaping the way projects are developed and opening up new opportunities for greater efficiency and impact within the industry.
I would like to continue working on projects that integrate scientific innovation and strategy, especially in areas such as process optimisation, digital transformation and the development of new working models within the pharmaceutical industry.
